Spray Foam Roofing
Spray foam roofing insulation is a great item. Homes insulated with it could be some of the most efficient and comfortable houses built. I've been in lots of these homes and can inform you that when spray foam is installed properly, they outshine 99% of fiberglass batt-insulated, stick-built homes. (I may also tell you that 73% of most statistics are made up on the spot, therefore please don't ask for documentation of this statistic. )

Spray foam comes in two kinds, open up the cell and closed cellular, and provides both parts of house envelope - the padding and the air barrier. House envelope should completely encompass the conditioned space, and also the insulation needs to be in contact with the environment barrier. Since spray froth is both insulation as well as an air barrier, proper positioning of insulation and air flow barrier is guaranteed.

Elaborate not guaranteed, however, is the fact that all Spray foam houses will be efficient and comfortable. I have seen some homes along with problems even though they're protected with spray foam.


To be able of prevalence, here are the issues I've seen, for reasons following the list:

- Spray foam isn't dense enough.
- Spray foam installers missed a few of the air leakage sites.
- Apply foam installers didn't be aware of building envelope and dispersed either too little or a lot of.
- Spray foam contracts as well as pull away from framing.

Apply foam isn't thick sufficient.

This is more common with shut cell foam, but it occurs with open cell foam, too. Since closed cellular foam has a higher R-value per inch, installers usually spray 2" in wall space and 3" in roofing to meet the energy code specifications of R-13 and R-19, respectively. (I'm not likely to dive into the energy program code here, but these numbers affect many climate zones, the actual latter being allowed underneath the UA tradeoffs rule.

Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) is the Best Insulator you can buy as foam insulation for the home. Closed-cell SPF stands alone as the just insulating material that does not absorb water. Since SPF is manufactured on the roof surface, make sure to select a qualified installation service provider to assure material integrity.
